Position Overview
The AVP, Front Office Strategist will collaborate closely with Front Office trading teams across multiple global hubs (Singapore, London, Paris, New York) to design, develop, and maintain a Greenfield platform that consolidates pricing feeds, trade capture, risk management, and execution systems. This role will also provide ongoing support for existing applications, enhance legacy code, and contribute to the continuous build-out of this platform for a variety of trading desks, including Global Oil, EU Power & Gas, and Metals.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Development
- Design and develop a cutting-edge pricing, risk management, and execution system in collaboration with Front Office Strat and Trading teams in Singapore and London.
- Build and expand solutions to support Global Oil, EU Power & Gas, and Metals trading desks across multiple locations.
- Work alongside the infrastructure and technology teams to ensure robust, scalable, and efficient systems architecture for this new platform.
Business as Usual (BAU) Support
- Provide ongoing BAU support for existing trading applications, working to improve and refactor legacy codebases.
- Ensure high availability, stability, and performance for trading systems to meet the demands of fast-paced trading environments.
Cross-Team Collaboration
- Partner with trading desks and other business areas to gather requirements and ensure the platform meets business needs.
- Collaborate with technology and infrastructure teams to integrate new systems and optimize existing workflows.
Compliance
- Adhere to the Conduct Rules set out in the Senior Manager & Certification Regime (SMCR), ensuring that all work aligns with regulatory and organizational standards.
Skills & Experience
Industry Experience:
- Proven experience as a software developer within a trading firm, energy utility, or financial institution, particularly within front office environments.
- Experience working with Agile project methodologies, delivering solutions on tight deadlines with quick turnaround times.
- Previous exposure to the commodity markets (Oil, Gas, Power, Metals) is highly desirable, but experience in Equities, Fixed Income, Crypto, or FinTech will also be considered.
Technical Skills:
- Programming: Proficiency in Python development, with experience in object-oriented and functional programming paradigms.
- UI/UX Development: Experience with modern UI/UX frameworks (e.g., React JS, AG Grid, State Management) is an advantage.
- Quantitative Finance: Knowledge of options, quantitative finance, and financial mathematics. Previous experience as a Quant Developer or in building financial libraries/trading strategies is a plus.
- Excel/VBA: Familiarity with Excel, VBA, and related third-party add-ins/APIs.
- Databases: Solid understanding of relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle) and object databases (e.g., MongoDB, KDB).
- Low Latency Systems: Experience developing low latency systems and architecture is highly desirable.
- DevOps: Familiarity with DevOps practices (e.g., CI/CD, Docker, Pipelines) and version control systems (e.g., Git, GitHub, Azure, TFS).
Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented and inquisitive mindset.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, particularly in fast-paced, pressure-filled environments.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet challenging deadlines.
Educational Background
- Degree in a STEM subject (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics), with demonstrated academic achievement or equivalent relevant work experience.
Desirable Attributes
- Experience working with fast-paced, high-pressure front office environments.
- Familiarity with legacy system upgrades and the ability to bridge legacy code with modern solutions.
- Strong understanding of commodity markets and the broader financial landscape.
