Job Title: Head of Accounting
Location: New York City
Compensation: $150,000 to $225,000 Base +Bonus and Potential for Equity
Job Description:
We are currently representing a leading and growing international commodity firm that specializes in geothermal, energy, renewable and power products.
The team is seeking a highly skilled accounting specialist to lead their Accounting function as the US Head of Accounting. This individual will possess a strong expertise in commodity products and will be responsible for overseeing all accounting functions within the organization. This role requires effective communication with both internal/external stakeholders and will sit in a senior position reporting directly to the Global Head of Accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP/IFRS.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- General Ledger Management:
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger accounts.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all financial transactions.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
- Collaborate with department heads to ensure alignment with financial goals.
- Internal Controls:
- Implement and maintain robust internal control systems.
- Conduct regular reviews and assessments of internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Tax Compliance:
- Manage tax planning and compliance for international, federal, state, and local taxes.
- Prepare and file tax returns and ensure timely payment of taxes.
- Stay updated on changes in tax regulations and advise management accordingly.
- Stakeholder Communication:
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, including senior management and department heads, to provide financial insights and support.
- Communicate with external stakeholders, such as auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.
- Present financial reports and analysis to the board of directors and executive team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on commodities, geothermal, and energy industries.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
