I am working with a well-known mobile payment platform who is looking to bring on a Risk Manager to establish and manage merchant risk management practices as they expand their US operations. This position emphasizes policy design and operational strategy over technical data skills, focusing on developing and implementing policies and procedures for end-to-end merchant underwriting and risk management. This is a non-technical role centered on operational and policy-driven responsibilities. Candidates should have 5+ years of experience in merchant risk, operational and policy development, and compliance (KYC/KYB), ideally within a payments or credit card company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop merchant underwriting and onboarding policies to meet U.S. regulatory standards and global acquiring risk requirements.
- Conduct thorough KYC/KYB and due diligence for new merchants, ensuring adherence to U.S. acquirer standards.
- Perform risk assessments for new products, payment channels, and platforms, implementing anti-fraud measures and working closely with tech and risk teams to enhance risk control systems.
- Collaborate with business teams to ensure risk policies support growth while adjusting controls based on changing risk levels.
- Work alongside strategy, modeling, and data teams to create proactive risk management solutions.
- Maintain and monitor key risk metrics across various merchant activities, refining risk triggers to enhance compliance.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience within merchant risk management, ideally at a payments or credit card company.
- Strong knowledge of credit risk, KYC/KYB processes, and compliance, particularly with high-risk merchants (e.g., those with prohibited products or high chargebacks).
- Experience in financial crime prevention, fraud operations, or AML in regulated environments is a plus.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution in a fast-moving environment.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related fields; advanced degree in finance, statistics, or risk management is advantageous.
