Job Description: The Underwriter will manage the pricing and placement of new and renewal business opportunities, ensuring exceptional service to agents and brokers. Key responsibilities include risk and pricing negotiation, coverage reviews, and maintaining a profitable book of business.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Underwrite new and renewal business using sound risk assessment techniques.
- Adhere to Venture Programs' Best Practice Service Standards.
- Develop and maintain business relationships with agencies and clients.
- Achieve premium/revenue production goals while maintaining profitability.
- Identify growth opportunities within new and existing production sources.
- Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to enhance business opportunities.
- Accurately bill bound items within required timelines.
- Review and approve endorsements within established guidelines.
- Resolve issues identified in Underwriting Quality Control and carrier file audits.
- Partner with the Underwriting VP to develop and analyze annual business plans.
- Stay informed about market trends, competition, products, and distribution systems.
- Assist in training new underwriters, trainees, and underwriting assistants.
- Participate in continuing education and in-house training programs.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Pennsylvania (or domiciled state) Property & Casualty License
- 3-5 years of P&C Underwriting experience with carrier authority (multiple carrier experience preferred)
- Commitment to ongoing insurance education
- Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with agents/brokers
- Organized, independent, and creative self-starter
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Familiarity with automated systems, processing, and general accounting
- Understanding of business operations and financial structure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
- MGA/MGU Experience
